Track worker critically injured after being hit by train in Germany

A 21-year-old track worker was seriously injured after being struck by a train at Frechen-Königsdorf station early on Thursday. The incident caused major disruption, with the RE 9 line suspended for two hours and multiple trains delayed. The accident happened in the early morning when the worker was in a restricted area of Königsdorf station. A regional express train travelling from Cologne entered the station and hit him.

Emergency services provided initial treatment at the scene before rushing him to hospital with severe injuries. The RE 9 line was immediately closed, halting services for around two hours. As a result, seven trains faced combined delays of about an hour and a half. Authorities have launched an investigation to determine how the worker came to be in the hazardous area. The exact circumstances remain unclear while inquiries continue.

The injured man is receiving medical care, though his condition has not been publicly updated. Train services on the affected route have since resumed, but delays persisted for some time. Investigators are still examining the events leading up to the collision.
