Low trade between Thuringia and Iran - Thuringia's Iran trade jumps fivefold as machinery exports surge in 2025
Thuringia witnessed a notable surge in trade with Iran in 2025, despite Iran being a minor export destination for the state. The total value of goods shipped to Iran reached approximately €24.3 million, marking a significant increase from the previous year. This growth was primarily driven by a substantial rise in machinery sales.
In 2024, Thuringia's exports to Iran amounted to just €5.2 million. By 2025, this figure had climbed by €19.1 million, reaching €24.3 million. Machinery exports, in particular, soared from €900,000 in 2024 to nearly €20.5 million in 2025.
Despite this increase, Iran ranked only 57th among Thuringia's export destinations. The state's largest trading partner remained the United States, with goods worth about €2.1 billion shipped there in 2025.
Beyond trade, Thuringia is also home to a small Iranian community. As of late 2024, around 2,130 people of Iranian origin resided in the region, with nearly half registered as asylum seekers.
The sharp rise in machinery exports propelled Thuringia's trade with Iran to its highest level in recent years. However, the overall volume remains modest compared to the state's other key trading relationships. No detailed comparisons with other German states were available in the latest data.
