Tesla is set to begin mass deliveries of its all-electric Semi truck this summer. The company will also launch a dedicated charging network for heavy-duty rigs along key freight routes. Trucking firms in California have already secured funding to adopt over 1,000 of these vehicles.

The Tesla Semi promises a 500-mile range—twice that of many rival electric trucks. Early real-world tests show it consuming just 1.64 kWh per mile over a 4,700-mile trial, beating efficiency forecasts. Drivers who have tested the vehicle highlight its centred seating position and surround-view screens, which simplify manoeuvring compared to traditional diesel lorries.

The truck's automatic transmission and ergonomic design reduce physical strain on operators. While its $300,000 price tag is roughly double that of a diesel equivalent, Tesla claims lower fuel and maintenance costs will offset the difference. Analysts predict deliveries of 5,000 to 15,000 units in 2026, with ambitions to reach 50,000 trucks annually.

Production will ramp up at Tesla's Nevada Gigafactory this summer. California-based haulage companies have already received $195 million in grants to deploy more than 1,000 Semis. Tesla has also announced plans for an 800-mile-range version, though no commercial launch date has been confirmed.

The first Tesla Semis will hit the roads in the coming months, supported by a new charging infrastructure. Fleet operators in California are leading early adoption, backed by state funding. With lower running costs and advanced features, the Semi aims to reshape long-haul freight transport.
