Tenaris pumps $306M into Ontario steel pipe plant, adding 200 jobs
Tenaris has announced a major investment of $306 million CAD in its Sault Ste. Marie Industrial Centre. The funding will expand production, introduce new equipment, and create up to 200 jobs in Ontario. Government and company leaders gathered to mark the occasion on Monday. The investment will upgrade Tenaris’s steel pipe manufacturing in Sault Ste. Marie. New, state-of-the-art equipment will boost productivity and extend the range of products available. This move aims to meet rising demand for high-performance Oil Country Tubular Goods (OCTG).
Tenaris has now invested over $656 million CAD in Canada since 2020. The latest funding reinforces its position as the country’s largest domestic OCTG manufacturer. Company president Martín Castro joined federal and provincial officials at the announcement.
Minister of Industry Mélanie Joly, Ontario Premier Doug Ford, and Economic Development Minister Vic Fedeli were among the attendees. Local leaders, including Sault Ste. Marie MP Terry Sheehan and Mayor Matthew Shoemaker, also took part. The project is expected to generate both direct and indirect skilled employment in the region. The $306 million upgrade will modernise Tenaris’s Ontario operations and support job growth. Expanded production capacity will help supply steel pipes for energy and industrial sectors. The investment follows a series of recent commitments to Canadian manufacturing by the company.
