Tegernsee Railway joins Deutsche Bahn with seamless leadership transition
The Tegernsee Railway (TBG) has officially changed hands, becoming part of DB InfraGO AG, a subsidiary of Deutsche Bahn. The transfer took place on Monday, March 2, 2023, with all employees retaining their positions under the new ownership. The railway will continue operating as an independent company within the larger Deutsche Bahn group.
The transition was managed by Michael Bourjau, the outgoing managing director of TBG. While he steps down from his role at the railway, he will remain involved as managing director of the newly formed Tegernsee Station Property Company.
Christian Steinbacher has now taken over as the new managing director of TBG. His appointment marks a shift in leadership, though no immediate changes to the operational structure have been announced. Responsibilities for infrastructure planning and quality assurance remain unclear compared to TBG's previous independent status.
Construction work on the line will go ahead as planned. The first project is set for June 1 to 13, 2023, with the section between Gmund and Tegernsee temporarily closing during this period.
The Tegernsee Railway's transfer to DB InfraGO AG ensures continuity for its workforce and ongoing projects. The first scheduled construction in June will see a temporary closure, while the company maintains its independent status within Deutsche Bahn. Leadership changes have been confirmed, but further operational details are yet to be disclosed.
