Suzuki Fronx returns after safety recall with strong early sales

The Suzuki Fronx small SUV has returned to the market after a temporary withdrawal due to safety concerns. Within its first week back on sale, more than 100 units were delivered to customers. The model had previously faced a recall over a seatbelt issue that prompted a halt in sales. The Fronx was pulled from the market after failing a crash test because of a faulty rear seatbelt retractor. New Zealand's transport agency, Waka Kotahi, advised owners not to carry rear passengers until the problem was fixed. Suzuki responded by recalling all affected vehicles to replace both rear seatbelt retractors, prioritising private owners in the process.

The company aims to complete the recall by late April. Despite the setback, the Fronx has been a strong seller for Suzuki, ranking as the brand's second-best-selling model by the end of last year. Its return comes as the compact SUV segment remains highly competitive, with many rivals vying for market share. Since its late 2023 launch, the Fronx has found success in key markets like India, where over 100,000 units were sold by mid-2025. It also performs well in Latin America, including Brazil and Mexico, as well as parts of Africa and Southeast Asia. Suzuki already has a solid foothold in this segment with models like the Jimny, reinforcing its position in the market.

The Fronx is now available again, with early sales showing strong demand. Owners affected by the recall will receive replacements for the faulty seatbelt components in the coming weeks. The model's return strengthens Suzuki's lineup in the crowded compact SUV market.
