Spotify is testing a new tool to help artists manage their profiles more effectively. Called Artist Profile Protection, the feature aims to stop incorrect or unwanted tracks from appearing under their names. The move comes as AI-generated music and open distribution have made errors more common.

The beta version targets musicians who often face wrongly attributed releases or share names with other artists. The feature lets artists review and approve any music submitted under their name before it goes live. Once enabled, they will receive email alerts for new submissions. Only verified tracks will then count towards their streaming stats and fan recommendations.

Spotify has acknowledged that its open distribution model has created gaps for mistakes and misuse. Incorrect releases can distort an artist's catalogue, reduce streaming numbers, and confuse fans trying to find their work. The rise of AI-generated music has made the problem worse, with more tracks ending up on the wrong profiles.

Artists can turn on the protection in their Spotify for Artists settings, available on both desktop and mobile web. The company has not revealed how many musicians are currently testing the beta version. The new tool gives artists more control over their profiles and helps maintain accurate streaming data. By filtering out unauthorised or mistaken releases, Spotify hopes to protect artist identities and improve fan discovery. The feature remains in beta as the platform refines its approach.
