Sokol Youth Center Reopens with Patriotic Summer Programs for Teens
The Sokol Youth Patriotic Tourism Center is ready to open its doors for the summer. Located on the shores of the Tartar Strait, it was built last year on the site of the former Zapadny youth camp. This season, it will host themed sessions for young people aged 10 to 17. The centre was established on the grounds once used by the Sokol Aviation Club in the 1980s and 1990s. That club had been founded by Warrant Officer Gennady Shibirekov. The new centre’s name came from a public vote.
Last summer, Sokol ran pilot programs for 'labor brigades' to upgrade the camp’s infrastructure. Safari tents have now been set up to accommodate visitors. The centre will offer five themed sessions this year, covering sports, creativity, and patriotism.
Its mission is to encourage civic engagement and patriotic awareness among young people. Activities blend education with outdoor recreation, giving participants a chance to develop new skills. Across the region, 407 children’s camps will operate this summer, with over 70,000 children expected to take part. Sokol aims to provide a space where young people can grow and contribute to their homeland. The centre is fully prepared to welcome its first guests.
