Shift4 teams with Lydian to bring Tether payments to global merchants
Shift4 has expanded its payment options by partnering with Lydian to support Tether, the world’s largest stablecoin. The move allows merchants to accept digital currency payments while receiving funds in their local currency. Shift4’s CEO highlighted the partnership as a natural extension of their existing 'Pay with Crypto' programme.
The collaboration between Shift4 and Lydian enables seamless transactions for customers using any major crypto wallet. Payments work much like traditional credit card transactions, but merchants avoid handling digital assets directly. Instead, funds are converted and settled in local fiat currency almost instantly.
Lydian’s technology reduces transaction costs and speeds up processing times. It also eliminates volatility risks for merchants and lowers the chance of chargebacks. These improvements come as stablecoin use surges—last year, their transaction volumes even exceeded those of Visa. Regulatory clarity from frameworks like the GENIUS Act and MiCA has helped pave the way for wider stablecoin adoption. With over 600 million crypto users globally, the demand for alternative payment methods continues to grow. Shift4’s integration of Tether positions the company as a leader in meeting this demand.
The partnership allows Shift4’s merchants to accept all major digital assets, including Tether, with settlements in their preferred currency. Faster processing, lower costs, and reduced risk make the solution appealing for businesses. The move reflects the broader shift towards digital payments in global commerce.
