Train line Bad Sooden-Allendorf - Bebra closed for weeks - Seven-Week Railway Shutdown to Modernize Key German Route Next Spring

A major section of the railway between Bad Sooden-Allendorf and Bebra will shut down for nearly seven weeks next spring. The closure, running from March 27 to May 15, will allow for large-scale upgrades, including tunnel construction and track renewals. Travellers in the region will face diversions and replacement services during this period.

The shutdown will see multiple projects consolidated into one extended closure. Excavation for the new Cornberg Tunnel will begin, alongside technical adjustments such as relocating signals and updating overhead power lines. Crews will also renew tracks along the stretch from Bad Sooden-Allendorf to Eschwege.

Noise reduction measures are part of the plan, with new barriers being installed on both sides of the railway between Bad Sooden-Allendorf and Kleinvach. Long-distance trains will be rerouted between Bebra and Eichenberg via Kassel, while regional line RB 83 will run on modified schedules between Göttingen and Eichenberg to keep connections open. Regional service RB 87, however, will not operate at all during the closure. Cantus Verkehrsgesellschaft will provide replacement buses for passengers who normally rely on this line.

The upgrades aim to modernise infrastructure and reduce noise for nearby communities. Once completed, the new Cornberg Tunnel and renewed tracks should improve reliability on this route. Travellers are advised to check schedules and plan for alternative transport during the works.
