Solar storage boom in Saxony-Anhalt continues - Saxony-Anhalt's electricity storage capacity surges by 54% in one year

Saxony-Anhalt has seen a sharp rise in electricity storage capacity over the past year. Between 2024 and 2025, the region's total storage grew by 54%, reaching 777 megawatt-hours. This amount could now power roughly 94,500 households for a full day.

The expansion came from all sectors. Large-scale storage facilities increased from 11 to 19 in the same period. Commercial storage systems also climbed significantly, rising from 250 to 398 units.

Home storage systems saw a 33% jump, with installations growing to 52,682 by the end of 2025. Over the last five years, private storage units for renewable energy in Saxony-Anhalt rose by about 45%, from 12,500 to 18,100.

Neighbouring states experienced even steeper growth. Brandenburg saw a 52% increase, while Saxony's numbers surged by 61%. Mecklenburg-Vorpommern and Thuringia also recorded rises of 38% and 49%, respectively. These figures come from data provided by the Bundesnetzagentur and regional statistics.

The latest figures confirm Saxony-Anhalt's growing role in energy storage. With more large-scale, commercial, and home systems in place, the region now has greater capacity to manage renewable energy. This development aligns with broader trends seen across eastern Germany.
