Saxony-Anhalt funds €4.9M for industrial energy efficiency upgrades
Willingmann: Not enough companies in Saxony-Anhalt are energy-efficient - Saxony-Anhalt funds €4.9M for industrial energy efficiency upgrades
Saxony-Anhalt is pushing for greater energy efficiency in its manufacturing sector. A state-backed program has already awarded €4.9 million to 40 companies since April 2024. Officials now want more firms to apply for funding to upgrade equipment and streamline production processes.
The initiative, managed by the Investment Bank of Saxony-Anhalt, provides financial support for energy-saving modernisation. Companies can submit applications to improve efficiency in areas like steam generation and production technology. One pilot project, focused on steam generation at a chemical park, has already taken place, though specific participants remain unnamed.
Armin Willingmann, the state's energy minister, has highlighted a worrying trend: too few manufacturers in Saxony-Anhalt currently meet energy-efficiency standards. He insists that many businesses still have untapped potential for reducing energy waste. The program aims to close this gap by offering targeted funding for upgrades and optimisation measures.
The funding scheme remains open for new applicants. Businesses looking to modernise their production lines can seek support through the Investment Bank of Saxony-Anhalt. With €4.9 million already distributed, the state expects further improvements in industrial energy efficiency across the region.
