San Lázaro Oriente station undergoes major upgrades for airport route

Construction work at San Lázaro Oriente station on Metrobús Line 4 has been underway for about a month. The upgrades aim to improve the Quetzalcóatl route heading towards Mexico City International Airport. Local traders and commuters have already noticed changes around the site. The station’s expansion has led to a narrower space for both Metrobús passengers and pedestrians. Temporary metal barriers and lane dividers now block parts of the outer lanes, restricting vehicle movement. Inside the work zone, crews are assembling metal structures while moving supplies like cement, soil, and paint cans. Scaffolding, tools, and other construction materials are scattered across the area.

Wooden barriers mark the outer edges of the site, where parts of the station’s old signage show visible wear and tear. Bright banners explain the ongoing upgrades, and traffic signs warn drivers to slow down to 10 kilometres per hour. Vendors nearby have reported disruptions but recognise the work as part of wider improvements to the route.

The project continues to reshape the station’s layout, with visible progress in the past few weeks. Commuters and drivers are adjusting to the temporary changes, while authorities urge caution around the construction zone. The upgrades are expected to enhance the station’s capacity and safety for passengers travelling to the airport.
