Saica Group acquires Thimm to dominate Europe's packaging market

Saica Group, one of Europe’s largest paper and packaging manufacturers, has acquired Thimm Group for an undisclosed amount. The deal marks a significant expansion for the Spanish company, which reported revenues of nearly €3,962 billion in 2025. Founded in 1943, Saica Group employs over 12,000 people across its operations. Thimm Group, a key player in corrugated packaging, brings a production capacity of 1.2 billion square metres and a workforce of 2,500 spread across Germany, Poland, the Czech Republic, and Romania. In 2024, Thimm recorded revenues of around €539 million.

The acquisition has been welcomed by both sides. Susana Alejandro, President and CEO of Saica Group, highlighted the strategic value of the deal. Mathias Schliep, Chairman of Thimm Group, also commented on the move, though specific details of his remarks were not disclosed.

Saica Group has confirmed that Thimm will continue operating under its existing structures. However, the transaction still requires approval from antitrust authorities before finalisation. The deal strengthens Saica Group’s position in the European packaging sector. Thimm’s production capacity and regional presence will complement Saica’s existing operations. Final completion of the acquisition remains pending regulatory clearance.
