Russian schools will replace their usual bells with patriotic songs throughout February. The initiative marks Defender of the Fatherland Day and other key historical dates. Over 1,000 schools across the country have already adopted the programme.
The project, known as Melodien statt Glocken, will feature tracks like Defenders of Russia, A Young Sailor Heads Home on Leave, The Crew Is One Family, and I Vote for Life. These songs aim to remind students of their ancestors' bravery and the importance of protecting the homeland.
The music will coincide with significant February events, including the anniversary of the Nazi defeat at Stalingrad and Russian Science Day. Schools in Moscow, Tatarstan, and Krasnodar Krai have been among the most active in rolling out the scheme.
The patriotic bell replacements will run for the entire month. Participating schools will use the songs to reinforce historical awareness among pupils. The programme continues to expand, with more regions expected to join in future years.
