Russian Court Convicts Brutal Gang for Murder and Armed Robberies in Far East
A court in Khabarovsk has convicted a violent criminal gang for a series of armed robberies and a murder. The group, led by a man from the Republic of Dagestan, targeted business owners in late 2023 and early 2024, leaving one victim dead. The sentences handed down include life imprisonment for one member and lengthy prison terms for the others.
The gang, which operated like a group me, was led by a man from the Republic of Dagestan, who recruited three acquaintances. Their first recorded attack took place in December 2023, when they assaulted the son of a grocery store owner. They stole cash, apartment keys, and later raided the family home, taking jewellery and money worth 2.7 million rubles.
Two months later, in February 2024, the same group targeted the owner of an auto dealership. They broke into his house, assaulted him, and stole valuables totalling 7.8 million rubles. The victim died as a result of the attack.
The court found all defendants guilty of aggravated robbery and murder. Sentences ranged from 13 to 22 years in high-security and maximum-security prisons. One accomplice received a life sentence. Additionally, the convicts were ordered to pay fines between 500,000 and 1 million rubles each.
Victims and their families were awarded over 10 million rubles in compensation, with 5 million rubles going to the relatives of the deceased businessman.
The case marks one of the most severe violent crimes against entrepreneurs in Russia's Far East in recent years. No similar organised attacks involving serious violence have been documented in the region over the past five years. The court's ruling closes a high-profile investigation into the gang's activities.
