Russia's Kolyma Highway reroutes traffic as old bridge closes for replacement
A section of the R-504 Kolyma Highway near Orotukan in Russia’s Magadan Region has seen changes to traffic flow. The existing bridge over the Orotukan River, at the 1,634th kilometre, has been closed to all vehicles while a replacement is built. The closure follows the start of construction on a new bridge along the same route. To keep traffic moving, authorities have set up a temporary crossing just 45 metres from the original structure.
All required safety measures have been put in place around the closed bridge. Drivers are now being directed to use the temporary detour until the new bridge is completed.
The rerouting ensures traffic can continue along the R-504 Kolyma Highway while work progresses. The temporary bridge will remain in use until the permanent replacement is finished and open to the public.
