Russia's Far East offers massive cash bonuses to lure military recruits
Russian cities in the Far East and Siberia are offering large one-time bonuses to attract military recruits. The payments vary widely, with some regions providing over 4 million rubles ($44,000) to new enlistees. These financial incentives aim to boost local enlistment numbers amid ongoing recruitment efforts. Magadan leads the list with the highest single payment of 4 million rubles ($43,000). Nearby, Khanty-Mansiysk, Surgut, and Nizhnevartovsk follow closely, each offering up to 4.1 million rubles ($44,000).
In the Far East, Vladivostok ranks second with a bonus of 3 million rubles ($32,000). Other regional centres like Yakutsk and Yuzhno-Sakhalinsk provide 2.6 million rubles ($28,000) and 2.55 million rubles ($27,400) respectively. Petropavlovsk-Kamchatsky and Khabarovsk each offer 2.5 million rubles ($27,000), while Chita’s payment stands at 2.4 million rubles ($26,000). At the lower end, Ulan-Ude recruits receive 1.6 million rubles ($17,000). Blagoveshchensk and Birobidzhan offer the smallest bonuses, both set at 800,000 rubles ($8,600).
The varying bonus amounts reflect regional priorities in military recruitment. Higher payments in remote or strategically important areas suggest targeted efforts to fill ranks. These financial incentives remain a key tool for local authorities in securing new enlistees.
