Russia's Angara rocket production shifts entirely to Omsk for cost efficiency

All production facilities at the Khrunichev State Research and Production Space Center are being relocated from Moscow to Omsk, while rocket engine manufacturing will be moved from Khimki to Perm, Dmitry Bakanov, head of Roscosmos, announced at a Federation Council session.

Earlier, in January, Roscosmos revealed plans to fully transfer production of the Angara family of launch vehicles from the Khrunichev Center's Moscow site to Omsk.

"This will significantly reduce overall production costs," Dmitry Baranova, Roscosmos' deputy director for rocket projects, stated at the time.

The Khrunichev Center had previously terminated its contract for the reconstruction and retooling of facilities at the Polyot Production Association, which were essential for setting up serial production of the Angara launch vehicles.

It is worth noting that Omsk already hosts serial production of the light version of the Angara-1.2 rocket. The Polyot plant manufactures the first and second stages of the heavy Angara-A5 modification, while the Moscow facility had handled complex assembly work.

The Angara is a family of modular Russian launch vehicles with varying payload capacities, built using universal rocket modules equipped with liquid-oxygen and kerosene engines.
