Russia's 2024 Unified State Exam Offers Retakes for Stressed Students

This year’s Unified State Exam (USE) for high school graduates will begin on June 1. Students will have the chance to retake key subjects if they fail, fall ill, or miss their original test date for a valid reason. The exam period kicks off with core subjects for eleventh-grade students. Those who do not meet the minimum passing score in Russian or mathematics—or who cannot complete their exam due to illness—can sit a retake. The same option applies to graduates who miss their scheduled test.

Reserve dates for all subjects have been set for June 22–25. An additional retake for one optional USE subject will take place on July 8–9. These opportunities ensure students can improve their results before university admissions open.

The schedule includes dedicated reserve days for retakes, allowing graduates to address any setbacks. All retakes must be completed within the given timeframe, giving students a fair chance to secure their scores. This year’s graduates can retake Russian, mathematics, and one optional subject if needed. The final retake window closes in early July, well ahead of university application deadlines. The system aims to provide flexibility for students facing unexpected challenges during exams.
