Rostov-on-Don makes traffic changes permanent after trial success
Rostov-on-Don has made permanent a series of traffic changes at key intersections after a successful trial. The adjustments, tested near Yekaterininsky Hall and the Kolkhoznaya-Ofitserskaya-Rostov Highway interchange, have already cut congestion and travel times for drivers and commuters alike. The new traffic rules at the Kolkhoznaya, Ofitserskaya, and Rostov Highway interchange were first introduced as a temporary measure. Official data from 2025 now shows a 20-30% drop in congestion at the site. Travel times have also fallen by 15-25% compared to the period before the experiment began.
Near Yekaterininsky Hall, the layout has been permanently altered. The number of lanes was reduced from three to one, and the public transport stop heading toward Neftyanikov Highway has been removed. These changes follow assessments confirming the improved flow of vehicles through the area.
The updated traffic system will remain in place after proving its effectiveness. Drivers and passengers now face shorter delays at two of Rostov-on-Don's busiest junctions. The city's transport authority has confirmed the measures as a long-term solution.
