Electric vehicle maker Rivian is moving forward with a major factory in Georgia. The plant will build its more affordable R2 and R3 models, along with robotaxis for Uber. State officials and federal funding are helping push the project ahead despite political shifts in Washington. The Georgia facility will start with an annual output of 200,000 electric vehicles in its first phase. Eventually, it aims to produce up to 300,000 EVs per year. A $4.5 billion loan from the US Department of Energy will support this expansion.

Rivian also plans to manufacture 50,000 robotaxis at the site, working with Uber. The project is expected to create 7,500 permanent jobs, 2,000 construction roles, and another 8,000 indirect positions in the state. The company secured a $6.5 billion conditional loan from the Energy Department in 2024, ensuring progress could continue. While former President Donald Trump had sought to slow vehicle electrification, Georgia’s Republican Governor Brian Kemp has backed EV-focused economic policies. Analysts believe the Rivian project will remain stable regardless of who wins the 2026 gubernatorial election. The growth of Rivian’s Georgia plant aligns with broader trends in the US. Both the domestic EV charging sector and the robotaxi industry are projected to expand in the coming years.

Rivian’s Georgia factory will bring thousands of jobs and a significant boost to EV production. With federal loans and state support, the project is set to advance even amid changing political landscapes. The plant’s output will include consumer vehicles and robotaxis, reinforcing the company’s role in the US electric transport sector.
