Remote Russian Village Gets First Satellite Internet HotSpot Beyond Arctic Circle

A new satellite internet HotSpot has arrived in Kazachye, a remote village in Russia’s Sakha Republic. RTComm, a federal satellite operator, installed the access point to bring high-speed connectivity to over a thousand residents. The project aims to bridge the digital gap in an area where traditional internet infrastructure is nearly impossible due to permafrost conditions. Kazachye sits beyond the Arctic Circle, on the banks of the Yana River, within Kazachinsky National Legacy. The village is only reachable by air, water, or winter ice roads, making it one of Russia’s most isolated communities. Permafrost and extreme conditions have long blocked conventional internet access, leaving residents with limited options for online services.

The HotSpot now allows users to connect via Wi-Fi on their mobile devices. To access the service, residents must register and buy a data package through a dedicated app. This system has already made a difference for locals like Raisa Dmitrieva, who highlighted how the HotSpot provides affordable access to government services, news, and communication tools. Mikhail Mutterperger, Commercial Director of RTComm.RU JSC, explained that the project focuses on improving digital life for Kazachye’s residents. The company plans to expand coverage further, developing the Wi-Fi network to reach more users across the region in the future.

The HotSpot has transformed connectivity in Kazachye, offering reliable internet where none existed before. With satellite technology overcoming geographical barriers, residents now access essential online services more easily. RTComm’s expansion plans suggest even broader coverage could follow in the coming months.
