Authorities in Gieboldehausen, in the Göttingen district, confiscated a substantial amount of food and confectionery during a routine traffic check, police announced on Wednesday.
Investigators suspect the goods may be stolen property.
The stop involved a Polish-registered Ford estate car at around 10:55 a.m. in the parking lot of a shopping center on Ludwig-Erhard-Straße. The 45-year-old driver was unable to provide proof of ownership for the items, which consisted primarily of chocolate and sweets from various brands.
He claimed to have purchased the products at several supermarkets, including ALDI, LIDL, and EDEKA.
When officers contacted nearby stores, they found no immediate reports of thefts matching the seized goods. However, police believe much of the merchandise likely originated from ALDI locations.
The exact value of the confiscated items remains unclear as investigations continue.
