Pogranichny Checkpoint Reopens After Major Expansion and Modernization
The Pogranichny International Road Checkpoint is set to reopen after a major upgrade. Work on the facility began in December 2022, and the expanded checkpoint will now feature twenty vehicle lanes. Officials have confirmed a temporary closure before the grand reopening. Construction at the Pogranichny – Suifenhe checkpoint involved over 500 workers at its busiest phase. Teams operated in two shifts to complete the reconstruction on schedule.
The checkpoint will shut down briefly from 9:00 AM on June 27, 2026, until 5:00 PM on June 29, 2026. During this period, both freight and passenger traffic will halt. Government agencies will use the suspension to relocate their control operations. Once reopened, the fully modernised checkpoint will handle significantly more vehicles. The expanded capacity aims to streamline cross-border movement between the two regions.
The upgraded checkpoint will resume operations at 5:00 PM on June 29, 2026. The new twenty-lane system is expected to reduce congestion and improve efficiency. Authorities have confirmed all technical preparations will be completed before the reopening.
