PKR denies Nurul Izzah's resignation amid leadership speculation
Parti Keadilan Rakyat (PKR) has moved to shut down claims about Nurul Izzah Anwar stepping down as deputy president. The party's information chief, Datuk Fahmi Fadzil, labelled the reports as 'fake news'. Nurul Izzah, the daughter of PKR president Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim, remains in her role despite recent speculation. Nurul Izzah secured her position in the 2023 party elections, winning the deputy presidency with 9,803 votes. Her opponent, Datuk Seri Rafizi Ramli, received 3,866 votes for the 2025-2028 term. The contest marked a significant moment in PKR's leadership structure.
Following his defeat, Rafizi Ramli resigned as economy minister. Before this role, he had served as Member of Parliament for Pandan and held key positions in the Ministry of Economy, including deputy minister. His work focused on policies such as the Johor-Singapore Special Economic Zone and progressive wage initiatives. PKR officials have now clarified that Nurul Izzah's position remains unchanged. The party's swift denial aims to prevent further confusion over her leadership status.
The denial from PKR ends speculation about Nurul Izzah's resignation. She continues as deputy president after a decisive election victory. Rafizi Ramli's departure from government followed his loss in the internal party vote.
