Petropavl's bold urban revival: Eco-park and downtown makeover begin
Infrastructure
The city is embracing a new identity: downtown Petropavl is undergoing a major reconstruction of its main street, while on the outskirts, a sprawling eco-park is taking shape—one that promises to reshape how residents spend their leisure time.
The second phase of the reconstruction of Constitution of Kazakhstan Street—one of Petropavl's most recognizable and bustling thoroughfares—has begun. This is not just the heart of the city, home to the akimat (local administration) and other government offices, but also the longest pedestrian street in the country.
This year's work focuses on the stretch from the intersection with Parkovaya Street to Nazarbayev Avenue, and the changes go far beyond cosmetic upgrades. The project involves a full overhaul: replacing paving stones, modernizing street lighting, and, in essence, reimagining the street's architectural character. Along the entire route, the façades of residential and commercial buildings will be refurbished to create a cohesive look, rather than a patchwork of disjointed designs.
Special attention is being paid to the details that shape the street's atmosphere. Fountains will be restored, and new urban amenities will be installed. The goal is to transform the street from a mere transit corridor into a place where people will want to linger.
Meanwhile, on the shore of Pestroye Lake—located within the city limits—a 41-hectare Qyzyljar Eco-Park is under development. Far more than just a recreational area, it is designed as a year-round destination, complete with event spaces, walking trails, and a triathlon park. The project includes modern lighting, expanded engineering infrastructure, small architectural features, and dedicated parking zones. Plans also call for widening the access road to the park via the village of Teplichnoye, with parking for 520 vehicles.
In short, the city is polishing its downtown while creating a new focal point on its outskirts. This is no longer just about repairs—it's an effort to rethink what a modern Petropavl should look and feel like.
