The Port Authority of New York and New Jersey has announced changes to PATH train fares and services. From May 4, 2026, single-ride prices will increase to £2.70, while SmartLink cards will be phased out in favour of unlimited passes on the TAPP system. These updates come as part of a wider £345 million modernisation plan. Starting May 4, the cost of a single PATH ride will rise from £2.45 to £2.70. This marks the first step in a series of annual increases, with fares set to reach £3.25 by 2029. Discounted bulk tickets will remain available through the TAPP tap-to-pay system, which will also replace SmartLink cards by the end of the year.

The fare adjustments will fund the 'PATH Forward' project, a £345 million initiative to upgrade the network. Work includes laying new tracks, modernising switching systems, and introducing new train carriages. These improvements aim to enhance reliability and capacity across the system.

From May 17, PATH will restore seven-day service on all four lines for the first time in nearly 25 years. Weekend travellers will benefit from direct routes between Journal Square and 33rd Street, as well as Hoboken and the World Trade Center. The changes are designed to reduce travel times and improve connections for regular commuters. The fare increases will support long-term upgrades, including new trains and track improvements. Seven-day service returns on May 17, offering more direct weekend routes. Riders will also transition to the TAPP system as SmartLink cards are discontinued.
