Norse Atlantic Airways launches eco-friendly transatlantic flights in 2022
Norse Atlantic Airways is set to enter the transatlantic aviation market with a focus on sustainability and affordability. The airline plans to connect Europe and the U.S. starting in summer 2022. Its fleet will consist of 15 Boeing 787 Dreamliners, chosen for their environmental benefits. The carrier will operate routes between six key destinations: Oslo, Paris, London, Florida, Los Angeles, and New York. It has already secured slots at London’s Stansted Airport and is expected to use secondary U.S. airports for its flights.
Norse Atlantic’s fleet will include 12 Boeing 787-9s and 3 Boeing 787-8s, all designed to maximise economy seating. This configuration aims to reduce carbon emissions per passenger kilometre by increasing passenger numbers on each flight. The airline’s CEO, Bjørn Tore Larsen, claims this approach will make Norse the lowest carbon-emitting airline per passenger kilometre in the world.
Ticket sales are scheduled to begin roughly three months before the first flight. The airline’s mission centres on sustainability, with plans to become a major player in the low-cost transatlantic market. The launch of Norse Atlantic Airways will introduce a new competitor in the transatlantic travel sector. Its commitment to sustainability and use of fuel-efficient aircraft may set a new standard for low-cost, long-haul flights. The airline will begin operations in summer 2022 with a clear focus on reducing environmental impact.
