Nizhny Novgorod rolls out major bike lane expansion across key districts

Nizhny Novgorod is expanding its cycling network with new bike lanes in multiple districts. Recent projects have already added kilometres of routes, and further developments are now underway. The latest plans include extensions in Leninsky, Sormovsky, and Avtozavodsky areas. Over the past three years, around 15 kilometres of bike lanes have been planned or completed across Leninsky and Sormovsky districts. In Leninsky, 8 kilometres were finished in 2024, while Sormovsky will see 7 kilometres added between 2025 and 2026. These routes form part of broader public space improvement schemes.

A new 1.5-kilometre lane will soon extend the existing route along Oktyabrsky Prospect. Meanwhile, Nizhny Novgorod Civil Engineering Design is preparing plans for another bike path on Molodyozhny Prospect in Avtozavodsky District. Design and cost estimates for this project are currently being drafted.

The Sormovsky District will also receive dedicated cycling infrastructure as part of ongoing upgrades to local public spaces. The expansion will increase cycling options for residents and connect key areas of the city. With multiple projects in progress, Nizhny Novgorod's bike network is set to grow significantly over the next two years. The new lanes aim to improve transport links and encourage sustainable travel.
