Nizhny Novgorod plans futuristic cable car to link IT hub and city streets
A new cable car system could soon connect key areas in Nizhny Novgorod. Experts have drafted a preliminary concept for a route linking the Neimark IT Campus and Chernigovskaya Street. The plan aims to offer an eco-friendly transport option while keeping urban disruption to a minimum.
The proposed cable car was designed by specialists hired by the regional transport centre. Their assessment found it the best solution for local passenger needs and terrain. Stations would blend into the existing landscape, avoiding major construction work and preserving the area's architectural style.
Earlier proposals had focused on two separate funicular lines. One would run between Chernigovskaya and Barmin Streets, covering 257 metres. The other was planned to connect Garshina Street with the road to the wastewater treatment plant, spanning 340 metres. The latest concept shifts focus to a cable car instead. However, no updates are currently available on the planning status for the Neimark IT Campus to Chernigovskaya Street route.
The project promises a greener transport alternative with limited impact on the city's infrastructure. If approved, the cable car would provide a direct link between the IT campus and Chernigovskaya Street. Further details on timelines or next steps remain unclear for now.
