Nizhny Novgorod forges tech ties with Southeast Asia through landmark deal

Nizhny Novgorod has struck a deal to boost ties with Southeast Asian nations through the Digital Economy and Cybersecurity Forum (DECF). The agreement, signed with the international business alliance B2BASEAN, aims to attract investment and expand cooperation in technology and cybersecurity. Local authorities report rising interest from Asian businesses in the region's opportunities. The partnership was formalised through a signed agreement between the DECF organising committee and B2BASEAN. This alliance focuses on streamlining partner searches and supporting tech-based investment projects. While no ASEAN member states have previously participated in the forum, organisers now expect a stronger presence from Southeast Asian companies in future editions.

The DECF, scheduled for May 18–21, 2026, will serve as the main platform for this collaboration. The event already helps promote Russian technologies internationally and fosters business links. Under the new deal, joint projects will target IT, digital transformation, and cybersecurity, deepening ties between Russia and ASEAN nations.

Regional officials highlight the deal's potential to strengthen Nizhny Novgorod's global connections. They also anticipate it will help local firms access new markets, particularly in Asia. The agreement sets out clear plans for joint initiatives in technology and cybersecurity. It is designed to bring more Southeast Asian participants to the DECF and increase investment in the region. The move follows a growing trend of Asian businesses exploring opportunities in Nizhny Novgorod.
