Nine arrested in massive AI-92 gasoline smuggling ring to Kyrgyzstan
A criminal group of nine people has been exposed for smuggling over 190,000 tons of AI-92 gasoline into the Kyrgyz Republic. Authorities seized eight rail tankers carrying 500 tons of illegal fuel at Turksib Station, uncovering a large-scale operation involving fake documents and shell companies. The case has now been sent to court, with further details restricted under Kazakh law. The group used 12 registered legal entities to hide their smuggling activities. Two mini-refineries, Kara Mai Oil LLP and Petro Bazis LLP, were set up to falsify the origin of the gasoline. By labelling it as petrochemical products, they bypassed export restrictions.
Investigators found that the group’s illegal turnover exceeded 37.2 billion tenge. The confiscated gasoline, worth 138 million tenge, has been transferred to the state treasury. Authorities have withheld additional details under Article 201 of Kazakhstan’s Criminal Procedure Code.
The case now moves to trial, with the nine suspects facing charges over the smuggling scheme. The operation involved fake paperwork, shell companies, and a shadow turnover of billions. All seized fuel has been claimed by the state.
