Nina Hutwagner takes the reins of Stuttgart's S-Bahn amid modernization push
Stuttgart’s S-Bahn has a new leader after Matthias Glaub stepped down to take a similar role in Munich. Nina Hutwagner officially took over as chair of the executive board on May 1, 2023. The change marks a key moment for the regional rail service as it pushes forward with modernisation plans. Matthias Glaub had led Stuttgart’s S-Bahn for nearly two years before moving to Munich’s S-Bahn. During his time, he introduced several initiatives to improve operations and drive development. His departure was followed by a symbolic handover ceremony on April 28, 2023, at the S-Bahn depot in Plochingen.
Nina Hutwagner now takes charge, bringing extensive experience from Deutsche Bahn. Her background includes leadership roles in rail operations and digital technologies. Deutsche Bahn has set high expectations for the transition, focusing on continued infrastructure upgrades and digitalisation efforts.
The aim remains clear: to strengthen Stuttgart’s S-Bahn as a reliable and future-proof transport network. With Hutwagner at the helm, the S-Bahn will continue its push for modernisation. Her leadership experience and focus on digital advancements align with Deutsche Bahn’s long-term goals. The transition is expected to build on the progress made under Glaub’s tenure.
