Nikolayevsky District bans heavy trucks to protect thawing roads

A temporary ban on heavy trucks has come into force in Nikolayevsky District. From March 25 to April 16, lorries over 16 tons or with an axle load above 4 tons will be barred from local roads. The move aims to protect surfaces weakened by the spring thaw.

The restriction covers key routes, including the road from Nikolayevsk-on-Amur to Vlasevo and access roads to nearby villages. Other specified roads in the district are also affected. Only vehicles with a special permit will be allowed to travel during this period.

The ban is a response to seasonal damage caused by thawing ground. Heavy traffic during this time often leads to deep ruts and cracks, resulting in expensive repairs. Local authorities enforce the measure annually to reduce long-term costs.

Drivers of restricted vehicles must apply for exemptions if travel is essential. No official figures have been released on how many settlements will face indirect disruption. Regional transport offices would need to provide a detailed assessment.

The month-long restriction remains in place until April 16. Lorries exceeding weight limits risk fines unless they secure a permit. The policy is designed to limit road deterioration and cut maintenance expenses in the coming months.
