NFR freight movement surges 8.6% in April 2026 on industrial demand
Northeast Frontier Railway (NFR) has reported a strong rise in freight movement for April 2026. The total loading reached 0.972 million tonnes (MT), marking an 8.6% increase over the same month last year. This growth reflects expanding economic and industrial activity in the region. Several key commodities drove the surge in freight. Coal loading jumped by 141.7%, while cement saw an even sharper rise of 329.0%. Dolomite also contributed, with a 20.7% increase compared to April 2025.
The 'Others' category, covering miscellaneous goods, recorded the most dramatic growth—a 190.0% spike. This sustained expansion has bolstered the regional supply chain and boosted NFR’s revenue earnings.
NFR remains committed to improving efficiency and adopting new technology. The railway plans to maintain reliable transport services and support continued growth in freight movement in the months ahead. The steady increase in freight loading points to rising demand across the Northeast and nearby areas. With ongoing investments in operations and technology, NFR aims to keep strengthening its role in regional trade and logistics.
