New Berlin-Amsterdam Rail Direct Connection Launched - New Berlin–Amsterdam train debuts with €35 fares and scenic stops
A new direct train service between Berlin and Amsterdam has launched today. Operated by Dutch rail company Govolta, the route offers passengers another option for travel between the two cities. Tickets start at €35 and are now available online.
The GoVolta Berlin–Amsterdam service departs from Berlin Gesundbrunnen station at 3:46 PM and arrives at Amsterdam Centraal at 11:55 PM. The journey takes between 6.5 and 7.75 hours, slightly longer than Deutsche Bahn's existing six-hour route.
Trains run three times a week, on Tuesdays, Thursdays, and Sundays. Along the way, the service stops in Hanover, Osnabrück, Bad Bentheim, Hengelo, Deventer, and Amersfoort. No additional cities are planned for the route in the coming months. Govolta's tickets start at €10, making it a cheaper alternative to Deutsche Bahn's offerings. However, the longer travel time could affect its appeal for those prioritising speed. The new service may also increase competition, potentially pushing Deutsche Bahn to adjust prices or capacity on shared tracks.
The launch introduces a budget-friendly option for travellers between Berlin and Amsterdam. With three weekly departures and stops in seven intermediate cities, it expands regional rail connections. The service could also influence pricing and demand on the existing Deutsche Bahn route.
