Neuwied Unites for Two Weeks of Anti-Racism Events and Solidarity
Neuwied is preparing for its annual International Weeks Against Racism, running from March 14 to 28. The event, now in its seventh year, brings together eight local organisations to challenge discrimination and foster solidarity. Activities will include film screenings, discussions, and cultural gatherings aimed at raising awareness and promoting justice.
The programme kicks off on March 14 with a first-aid course titled First Aid—Anyone Can Save a Life! at EIRENE's offices on Engerser Straße. Two days later, the official launch takes place at Luisenplatz, featuring information booths and interactive activities for the public.
On March 18, the Albanian-Islamic Cultural Association Bashkimi e.V. will host a communal Iftar at Sohler Weg 57. The following day, the Big House Youth Center screens The German People, a film examining the far-right terrorist attack in Hanau. A vigil at the Angel of Cultures on March 21 will honour those fighting for freedom and democracy in Iran.
Later in the week, the Neuwied Multigenerational Center welcomes the International Women's Group on March 23, open to women of all ages. On March 25, Minski at Schauburg presents the documentary No Country for No One—Fortress Europe, focusing on refugee struggles and migration policies. The event concludes on March 28 with No Single Story, a discussion on diversity, prejudice, and the importance of multiple perspectives.
Participating organisations include Caritas, Diakonie, Starke Nachbarn by EIRENE e.V., the Migration and Integration Advisory Council, the Multigenerational Center, AWO, the Neuwied District Health Prevention Office, and the city of Neuwied itself.
The initiative comes amid ongoing concerns about racism targeting refugees, migrants, and individuals perceived as outsiders in society.
The International Weeks Against Racism in Neuwied will feature a mix of educational, cultural, and reflective activities. Organisers hope the events will encourage dialogue, strengthen community ties, and reinforce the commitment to equality. All sessions are open to the public, with details available from participating groups.
