Nelkan Battles Devastating Floods as Recovery Efforts Begin
Severe flooding has struck the town of Nelkan, causing significant damage to infrastructure and homes. Recovery efforts are now in full swing to address the aftermath of the disaster. The flood submerged two residential buildings and 17 household plots. Residents quickly raised furniture and appliances to protect their belongings from the rising water. Garden plots suffered little harm as crops had not yet been planted.
The Chuya River bridge and 280 metres of sidewalks were damaged in the flood. Repairs on the bridge and sidewalks have already begun. A damage assessment commission was formed to inspect and document the impact.
Flooding of this magnitude was last seen in Nelkan in 2009. Each registered resident in affected homes will receive 15,675 rubles in financial aid. Compensation will help cover damages caused by the flooding. The town continues its efforts to restore normalcy after the disaster.
