Naucalpan revives its parking meter system with expanded coverage and new rates

Naucalpan’s parking meter system is set to return permanently under the current administration. Municipal President Isaac Montoya Márquez confirmed the programme will stay, with installation beginning in Zona Azul in late June. The revival follows years of stops and starts, including a suspension in 2016 and a brief return in 2017. The parking meter system first appeared in 2013, when the city council approved 1,500 metered spaces across several neighbourhoods. It ran until early 2016, when the concessionaire’s contract expired in December 2015. A short revival in 2017 lasted a year and four months, covering the same number of spaces.

Now, the programme is being expanded in partnership with NauPark. It will cover an average of 5,000 spaces across key areas, including El Mirador, downtown Naucalpan, Industrial Alce Blanco, Satélite Shopping Center, Lomas de Tecamachalco, Zona Azul, and the Boulevards area. Installation in Zona Azul will start in the second half of June, with Ciudad Satélite to follow later.

Operating hours will vary by day. From Monday to Wednesday, meters will run from 8:00 AM to 8:00 PM. On Thursdays through Sundays, they will operate from 8:00 AM to 2:00 AM. Rates will range from two to five pesos per 15 minutes for cars, depending on the zone. Motorcycles will pay a flat two pesos for the same period. The system’s return marks a long-term commitment by the local government. It will cover more zones and spaces than before. Officials state the programme had not failed but suffered from a lack of agreement between past administrations and the concessionaire.
