Mumbai Port Authority smashes cargo record with 75.15M tonnes in FY 2025-26
Mumbai Port Authority has recorded its highest-ever cargo throughput in a single financial year. During FY 2025-26, the port handled 75.15 million metric tonnes of goods. This milestone marks a significant achievement in its operational performance. The port’s latest figures show a substantial increase in cargo movement. It captured an 8.22 percent share of all major port cargo across India. Within specific sectors, it held a 35 percent market share in iron and steel exports and imports.
In coastal trade, the port accounted for 10.48 percent of the total volume. Liquid bulk cargo also saw strong activity, with a 15.5 percent market share. Each million tonne of cargo processed contributes to revenue growth and local employment opportunities.
To build on this success, Mumbai Port Authority is focusing on key performance indicators. These include cargo growth, vessel handling efficiency, and cost-effective operations. Plans are also underway to adopt more eco-friendly cargo handling methods. The goal is to strengthen competitiveness while reducing environmental impact. The record throughput of 75.15 million metric tonnes highlights the port’s expanding role in national trade. By targeting efficiency and sustainability, Mumbai Port Authority aims to maintain its growth trajectory. Future efforts will centre on improving performance and reinforcing its position as a leading port.
