Construction is well underway on Moscow's new Biryulyovskaya metro line, with major work taking place at the Luganskaya station. The project includes a vast foundation pit and new turnback sidings, designed to improve transport links across the city's southern districts.

The line will eventually connect the redeveloped ZIL industrial zone to Biryulyovo Zapadnoye and Biryulyovo Vostochnoye, serving thousands of residents in the area.

At the Luganskaya station site, crews are using the 'diaphragm wall' method to build the foundation pit. This involves a reinforced concrete wall, one metre thick and stretching over 705 metres, supported by steel struts and walers. Around 221,000 cubic metres of soil will be excavated during the process.

In front of the station, turnback sidings over 300 metres long are being constructed using the open-cut method. These will cover 7.7 hectares and extend 330 metres, allowing trains to reverse direction efficiently. Once the station opens, the surrounding area will be landscaped and upgraded for public use.

The Biryulyovskaya line itself will boost transit access for residents in Danilovsky, Nagatinsky Zaton, Pechatniki, Tsaritsyno, and both Biryulyovo districts. Beyond this project, Mosinzhproekt JSC—the general designer and contractor—is also planning or building 25 more stations and 52 kilometres of track across Moscow. These include extensions to Lines 11, 12, 19, and 22, as well as the Bolshaya Ringovaya Line, with several sections already under construction in early 2026.

Since 2011, the company has delivered 84 stations and over 180 kilometres of metro track, reshaping the city's transport network.

The new infrastructure will provide faster, more reliable connections for southern Moscow's residents. With the Luganskaya station and turnback sidings nearing completion, the Biryulyovskaya line is set to become a key part of the city's expanding metro system. Further expansions across other lines will continue to develop in the coming years.
