Monterrey launches 30 modern buses to upgrade routes 5 and 405
Governor Samuel García and Mariana Rodríguez have introduced 30 new public transit buses for routes 5 and 405 in La Estanzuela, Monterrey. The launch marks a step in modernising the city’s transport system. These buses will replace older models that have been in service for over 20 years. The new buses come equipped with air conditioning, surveillance cameras connected to the C5 security centre, and onboard internet. They aim to improve mobility and offer a safer, more efficient service for passengers. Over 157,000 residents in the area are expected to benefit from the upgrade.
This phase completes the bus replacement programme in Monterrey’s southern basin. Future plans include expanding the initiative to García and Santa Catarina municipalities. Additionally, the state administration intends to deploy 4,000 new buses across Nuevo León.
Metrorrey Director General Abraham Vargas Molina highlighted the importance of professional driver training, better working conditions, and ongoing oversight. These measures are part of the broader effort to enhance the transit system’s quality and reliability. The new buses will serve routes 5 and 405, replacing outdated vehicles. The improvements are set to provide a more dignified and secure travel experience. Further expansions of the programme will continue in other municipalities.
