Mobilezone's CHF 180M AK Group Deal Expands Swiss Apple Retail Dominance
Swiss mobile retailer Mobilezone is set to acquire the AK Group, a move that will expand its online business. The deal, valued at around CHF 180 million in cash, is expected to finalise by the end of June 2026. The acquisition includes the e-commerce platform Apfelkiste.ch, a niche Apple retailer known for its wide range of accessories and lifestyle products.
The AK Group, which employs around 100 people, reported revenue exceeding CHF 100 million in 2025, with an EBITDA of approximately CHF 20 million. While detailed revenue figures for Apfelkiste.ch before its 2021 takeover by the AK Group are not publicly available, reports suggest steady growth as a specialised Apple retailer in Switzerland.
Apfelkiste.ch offers around 60,000 products, spanning smartphone accessories, 'Home & Living', and 'Lifestyle' categories. The acquisition will strengthen Mobilezone's online presence while allowing Apfelkiste to expand its reach through Mobilezone's nationwide network of physical stores. Pierre Droigk, founder of Apfelkiste and former CEO of the AK Group, is set to join Mobilezone's board of directors. The company anticipates the deal will generate 'substantial additional value' in the coming years. The AK Group also includes Marein, a retail branding specialist, further broadening Mobilezone's service offerings.
The acquisition will cost Mobilezone CHF 180 million in cash, with completion expected by June 2026. Apfelkiste's product range and online expertise will integrate with Mobilezone's existing operations, while the retailer's physical stores will provide Apfelkiste with greater market access. The deal marks a strategic step in Mobilezone's expansion of its digital and retail footprint.
