The modernisation of Mittelrheinbahn’s entire fleet is now complete. All 17 trains have undergone a full overhaul, improving comfort and passenger services. The project wrapped up in early May with the final refurbished vehicle unveiled. The upgrade began with a focus on keeping services running smoothly. Vehicles were rotated into Siemens Mobility’s workshop one by one, ensuring no disruption to timetables. Alongside the refurbishments, six new Siemens Mireo trains were added to the fleet in late 2020 to handle growing passenger numbers on busy routes.

The overhauled trains now feature redesigned seating, brighter LED lighting, and extra power outlets. Wi-Fi and TFT displays for real-time travel updates have also been installed. Visually, the vehicles received a partial repaint, giving them a refreshed appearance. The project cost around three million euros, with Alpha Trains contributing a significant seven-figure investment. Trans Regio, a subsidiary of Eisenbahn Verkehrs Nachrichten (EVN), will continue operating the Mittelrheinbahn service.

Passengers will now benefit from improved seating, better connectivity, and up-to-date travel information. The upgraded fleet, including the new Mireo trains, aims to meet rising demand while maintaining reliability. The modernisation marks a key step in enhancing regional rail services.
