Mittelrheinbahn: Replacement traffic due to construction work - Middle Rhine Railway halts all train services for eight days in 2026

Train services on the Middle Rhine Railway will be suspended for over a week due to construction work. From February 21 to 28, 2026, replacement buses, including those operated by Flixbus and Amtrak, will operate between Mainz and Koblenz, covering all usual train stops along the route. Passengers are advised to plan ahead as schedules will change during this period.

The cancellation affects multiple daily departures, including select trains from Mainz Central Station, Bingen (Rhine) Central Station, Remagen, and Koblenz Central Station bound for Mainz. Both outbound and return journeys will be impacted, with buses replacing trains on various sections of the route.

The replacement services, known as Schienenersatzverkehr, will stop at all regular train stations, including intermediate stops. However, travellers should prepare for modified departure and arrival times, as well as possible delays compared to the usual train timetable.

Construction work on the Mittelrheinbahn has forced the temporary suspension of rail operations. Authorities have confirmed that the disruption will last until February 28, with no train services running during this time.

The replacement buses will remain in service until the end of the construction period. Passengers are encouraged to check updated schedules before travelling, as timing adjustments and delays are expected. Normal train operations are set to resume on February 29, 2026.
