Mexico City Metro's Line 5 resumes full service after heatwave chaos

Mexico City Metro’s Line 5 has fully reopened after heat-related disruptions caused partial closures. The issue began when high temperatures on Thursday led to the expansion of key components along the track. Services are now running normally between Politécnico and Pantitlán. The problem started after record heat caused parts of the track to expand, forcing inspections and repairs. As a result, trains initially ran only between Politécnico and Oceanía, with the section from Hangares to Terminal Aérea temporarily closed.

During the disruption, the Passenger Transport Network set up free shuttle buses between Oceanía and Pantitlán. Extra security staff were also deployed to assist passengers during busy periods. Adrián Rubalcava, the Metro’s director general, confirmed that full service had been restored. He thanked maintenance crews for their quick work and apologised to commuters for the delays. Rubalcava also expressed appreciation for passengers’ patience while repairs were carried out.

Line 5 is now operating without restrictions, with trains running the full route from Politécnico to Pantitlán. The Metro has assured passengers that all necessary checks have been completed to prevent further issues. Normal service is expected to continue as usual.
