Mexico and Canada have signed a new agreement to boost cooperation in aerospace science and technology. The deal aims to turn lab research into real-world industrial advances with economic benefits. Both countries will now work together more closely on innovation across the entire aerospace sector. The partnership was finalised during a trade mission led by Mexico’s Economy Secretary, Marcelo Ebrard Casaubón. Representatives from universities, research centres, and technology institutes attended the signing ceremony. Among them were officials like Luis Alberto Fierro Ramírez and César Eduardo Gutiérrez Jurado, along with directors from institutes in Celaya, Mérida, Morelia, and Querétaro.

The agreement brings together Mexico’s National Association of Universities (ANUIES), the National Polytechnic Institute (TecNM), and Canada’s Mitacs organisation. Their joint focus will be on developing specialised talent, advancing research, and speeding up innovation in aerospace. A key part of the plan involves creating a binational network of experts to drive applied technological solutions.

To make this happen, the alliance will support joint training programmes, academic exchanges, and technology transfer between universities and companies. It will also use Mitacs’ existing initiatives, such as the Globalink Research Award and the Accelerate program, to fund and facilitate researcher mobility. The deal will strengthen ties between Mexican and Canadian institutions, helping to prepare highly skilled professionals for the aerospace industry. By combining research efforts and industry collaboration, both countries expect to see faster development of new technologies with real economic impact.
