Mexican Navy conducts lifesaving drills ahead of Easter Week 2026
The Mexican Navy has carried out search and rescue drills in Veracruz in preparation for Easter Week 2026. These exercises aim to boost emergency response capabilities ahead of the busy holiday period. Teams from the First Naval Region led the training as part of Operation Lifesaver.
The drills were organised by the Naval Search, Rescue, and Maritime Surveillance Station. A helicopter, a Defender-class vessel, and four rescue swimmers took part in the exercises. The swimmers practised free-fall jumps into the water from the helicopter.
The teams also performed a controlled descent drill and a victim recovery exercise. This involved lifting a simulated casualty using a rescue basket. The training focused on improving coordination between air and sea units. During Easter Week, the Navy will maintain continuous surveillance in high-traffic tourist areas. This measure ensures safety for visitors along Veracruz's coastal regions.
The exercises form part of wider efforts to enhance maritime safety during peak holiday periods. The Navy's preparations come as Veracruz expects an influx of tourists for Easter. Enhanced response capabilities will help handle emergencies more effectively.
