MetLife Stadium's World Cup debut brings strict transport rules for fans

MetLife Stadium in East Rutherford, New Jersey, will host its first World Cup match this Saturday at 6 p.m. Transport plans have been put in place to manage the large crowds expected for the event. From 2 p.m. on Saturday, only NJ Transit trains heading to the stadium will depart from New York Penn Station. Trains returning after the game will undergo security checks at Secaucus Junction before reaching MetLife Stadium. For three hours after the final whistle, NJ Transit trains leaving the venue will go only to New York Penn Station.

Only round-trip tickets are available for NJ Transit trains and buses to the match. To ease congestion, a fan zone and a long walk to boarding areas will be in place. PATH services from Newark or Hoboken are advised for those travelling from New Jersey to New York Penn Station after the game.

Ticketholders cannot walk to the stadium from local roads. Ride-share users must be dropped off at Meadowlands Racetrack, with extra surcharges for trips to and from the venue. Uber Shuttle is offering pre-booked rides home for $49, with drop-offs in Manhattan and Jersey City. The transport measures aim to ensure smooth travel for fans attending the game. Strict rules on train services, drop-off points, and post-match travel are in force to handle the expected crowds.
